A fun project I joined in for a bit was my school’s entry in the Design-Build-Fly competition, where teams create an airplane from scratch. As shown above, part of this entailed constructing the fuselage for the plane (alongside other plane body parts). To do this, we put layers of carefully cut fiberglass into a mold, coated it with resin, and then vacuum-sealed it to ensure it was air-tight. Once the resin dried, the fiberglass would form a hard shell that would be both lightweight and strong, perfect for a miniature airplane. In addition to the fuselage manufacturing process, I helped the team with laser-cutting the structure for plane interior.
